A Third Candidate Files for the Maryland Heights Ward 1 City Council Spot
Dawn Valley Association trustee Steve Leipziger is set to run for the position in the upcoming municipal election in April.
A third candidate filed to run for the Ward 1 spot on the Maryland Heights City Council in the 2012 municipal election. Steve Leipziger, who currently serves as a trustee of the Dawn Valley Association, will run against incumbent Ken Gold and political newcomer John Minton in this year’s April election.
Leipziger said he’s lived in Maryland Heights for three years. He grew up around the area, having graduated from Parkway North High School. He went on to study sociology at Butler University.
The Dawn Valley Association is composed of 82 households, Leipziger said. He said he got a feel for speaking in front of residents at annual association meetings and figured he would try to broaden his horizons by running for city council.
Leipziger's family owns Glasshopper Studio in Creve Coeur. According to their website, the studio offers classes on glass bead making, glass fusing, wire bending and other craft activities.
Leipziger said his favorite aspects of Maryland Heights are its growth potential and the park. He said the biggest issue that faces the city is the propsed expansion around Creve Coeur Park.
The last day to file for candidacy in the municipal election is Jan. 17.

That may be a possibility in the distant future. The store is owned by my mother so she ultimately decides when and where to operate her business. Further, in this economy moving a business is much more difficult than you may realize. We are happy where we are. Hope this answers your comment.
