Athlete of the Week: Vote for This Week's Top High School Athlete
Vote for your favorite football player in this week's Athlete of the Week poll. Be sure to vote by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.
The high school football-season is in full-tilt, which means area athletes are tearing up the grid iron and making highlight reel plays.
We want to know which athlete fared the best over the weekend.
We're taking athletes from Maryland Heights Patch, Creve Coeur Patch, Chesterfield Patch, Town and Country-Manchester Patch and Ballwin-Ellisville Patch and finding out which ones are the best, according to the fans.
Vote in the poll below: Who was the central St. Louis County player of the week for the first week of the 2012 football season?
Here are the nominees:
Marcus Jester, RB, De Smet: Jester rushed for 168 yards on just 18 carries—nearly 10 yards per touch—and found the endzone twice in De Smet's 21-0 win against visiting Hazelwood Central. Jester, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, has emerged as the go-to guy in the backfield after junior returning starter Latif Adams suffered a knee injury that will force him to miss most of the season.
Roderick Campbell, DB, Chaminade: Just a freshman, Campbell turned up big in Chaminade's 63-34 win over Roosevelt by snatching 3 interceptions, including one for a touchdown. Campbell also added a team-high four tackles in the game.
Terrell Bland, Parkway South High School: Bland chipped in with a little bit of everything to help Parkway South go 2-0 on the season. The senior all-around stud rushed for 29 yards, passed for 30 yards and caught a pass for 25 yards. But it was his defensive awareness that made the difference. His 60-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown was the one and only score of the game as Parkway South knocked off Ritenour 7-0.
Johnathan Little, RB/LB, Parkway North High School: Little rushed for 139 yards on 19 carries and scored the touchdown that ultimately proved to be the difference—a 90-yard scoring rush—in Parkway North's 14-7 win over Oakville. Little's 90-yarder came just a play after a deep pass was called back on a penalty.
Remember: It's all for fun. This is simply a fan's choice award.
