Baker Sets Sights on Full City Council Term

Councilwoman Kim Baker talks about her goals if she's elected to the Ward 2 City Council spot.

Election season may be just beginning, but one municipal race already has two candidates. Kim Baker and Howard Abrams filed to run for the Ward 2 Maryland Heights City Council spot on Dec. 13.

Baker told Maryland Heights Patch that she has been proud to serve on the city council.

“I love being part of the process,” she said.

Baker was sworn in as councilwoman in March. She was appointed to the position after Councilwoman Judy Barnett died in February. Baker said she wants to continue to fill Barnett's shoes. The late councilwoman did a great job serving Maryland Heights, Baker said, and she wants to continue that tradition.

If she’s elected to the Ward 2 spot, she wants to make sure the city implements its strategic goals within the next five years. Those goals include maintaining and improving housing and providing effective law and code enforcement.

Visit the City of Maryland Heights’ website for a complete rundown of the city’s strategic goals.

Baker said she’s friends with her competition. She knows Abrams from around the neighborhood.

The two are also both active in city government. Abrams serves on the Maryland Heights Planning Commission with Baker's husband, Darrell Baker.

Several attempts to reach Abrams before publication were unsuccessful.
