A Maryland Heights man was charged Oct. 30 after police said he left the scene after driving into a mailbox, and having blood-alcohol content more than four times the legal limit.

St. Louis County Prosecutors charged Sean M. Hurley, 42, of the 11900 block of Midvale Drive in Maryland Heights, with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender and leaving the scene of an accident.

Maryland Heights Police said Hurley drove off after hitting a mailbox on Dorsett Road Nov. 1, 2011. When officers pulled him over his blood-alcohol content was four times the legal limit, police said.

Police said Hurley performed poorly on part of a sobriety test and refused to do the walk and turn test. A breathalyzer test showed his blood-alcohol content level was 0.326 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.

Hurley also had two previous DWI convictions in 2002 and 1997.

Bail was set at $6,000
