Food trucks will converge in St. Charles' Frontier Park for the city's first large-scale food truck event from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4. 

Folks living or working in Maryland Heights have just a short car ride to enjoy the event.

St. Charles Parks Department is organizing the event, which Director Maralee Britton hopes will be similar to the monthly Food Truck Friday events at Tower Grove Park, hosted by Sauce Magazine.

Eleven food trucks are expected to be in the park including Burger Ink, Cha Cha Chow, El Gran Taco, Go Gyro Go, Hot Aztec, Papa Tom's Fancy Franks, Sarah's Cake Stop, Sarah's Meltdown, Speedway Eatery, The Sweet Divine and Zia's "On the Hill."

Trailhead Brewery and Little Hills Winery will sell beverages. Musicians Clayton Jones and Eric Prewitt, from Rhythm Music and Performing Arts Studio will perform. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. 

"We're starting to look at food trucks in a much different light. It's more gourmet food now than what you might have seen at a carnival," she said. "While some of our cohorts in the St. Louis area had been doing some of these types of events, it had not spread yet to this side of the river." 

Cities in St. Charles County have varying rules for food trucks, which may be the reason not many venture into the County regularly. Some cities, like O'Fallon, prohibit food trucks, while St. Peters and St. Charles require vendors to get approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission. 

Since this event is happening in the park, food trucks will only have to get a temporary license from St. Charles County Health Department and provide proof of insurance to participate. 

"The food trucks is definitely something new for us," Britton said. "We have not typically in the past been an event department... Our city is saturated with events, we want to be cautious that we choose something that's not a a typical event."

She said she's hopeful food trucks in Frontier will bring a much broader base of people from throughout the region.
