A St. Louis County man faces his third DWI charge since 2000 after a Clayton police officer pulled him over at 2:10 a.m. Dec. 18 on Clayton Road. Police said the man’s blood-alcohol content measured at .243, more than three times the legal limit.

Christopher Heil, 45, of the 1400 block of Willowbrooke Drive in unincorporated St. Louis County between Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights, was charged with driving while intoxicated as an aggravated offender, a class C felony.

Heil previously pleaded guilty to DWI on June 28, 2011 and Jan. 25, 2000. He also pleaded guilty to driving with excessive blood-alcohol content on March 21, 2001. He had been given a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to DWI as a persistent offender in 2011.

Clayton Police said he was behind Heil at a red light on Demun Avenue at the Clayton Road intersection. When the light turned green, Heil did not move for seven seconds, the officer said. He then turned east onto Clayton Road and the officer stopped the car.

According to the report, when Heil rolled down his window the officer smelled a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and from inside the car. The officer said Heil’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy.

The officer arrested Heil, who took a chemical blood-alcohol content at the Clayton police station.

Heil was being held Friday in St. Louis County jail. Bail was set at $20,000.
