Nichols Wins Democratic Nomination for 72nd District

The former Maryland Heights City Council member will face Republican Patrick Brennan in November.

 

Democrats in the 72nd District selected Mary Nichols to run for the Missouri House of Representatives seat in November, unofficial results indicate. The St. Louis County Election Board shows 29 of 29 precincts are reporting.

Nichols won the Democratic primary with 58.37 percent of the vote (1,515 votes).

Eileen Grant McGeoghegan received 801 votes (30.88), while Paul Berry received 279 votes (10.76 percent).

Only one Republican, Patrick J. Brennan, ran in the primary. Nichols will face him in November.

Nichols told Maryland Heights Patch that the voters have spoken, and that she will be ready for the November election.

Democratic voters went to Facebook to show their support for their candidate. RaeLynn Peterson-Krawzik wrote on Mary Nichols’ Facebook page, “Good luck today Mary!”

On McGeoghegan’s Facebook page, Michelle Reinecke wrote “Good luck today!!! You had our votes!!!!!”

On July 31, Randy Dedert wrote on Paul Berry’s Facebook page, “Last week before the Polls. Can't wait to have someone who will put our community first!!”

Missouri’s 72nd District includes portions of Maryland Heights, Bridgeton, St. Ann, Breckenridge Hills, Overland, St. John, Woodson Terrace and unincorporated St. Louis County.

Election day is Nov. 6.
