I had the TRUE PLEASURE of meeting Stan twice, of which I will never forget.I had the opportunity to watch him get off a plane in Detroit from STL, which I was waiting for to return to STL, and be swarmed by these young boys looking for pats on the back and/or autogragths and him smiling and enjoying every second of it. He stayed until the last child left. What a gentleman!!!! I have many other great stories to tell about Stan...There will never be another so Great!! Go in Peace Stan and God bless you.

I was with a friend who knew him at a banquet once. The guy with me says, "So, Stan, I always wanted to ask you, when you have people meet you at Busch Stadium, do you tell them to meet you at your statue like all the rest of us?" I don't think Stan knew of that tradition and he found it very amusing.

Stan was my boyhood hero since about the mid 1950's. He was so highly respected as a person that I tried to pattern my life after him, and I think I became a better person for having had him as someone I idolized and wanted to be like. He and my father and mother were all born in the same year (1920) and they were all heroes to me. I am feeling very sad this morning.
