Scott LaZear to run for Maryland Heights' Ward 3 City Council Spot

LaZear makes the third candidate for the city council seat.

A local software engineer joined the 2011 municipal election season before filing closed Jan. 18. Scott LaZear will run for the Ward 3 city council spot in April, where he will face two other candidates.

LaZear has deep ties to Maryland Heights. The father of three has lived in the city all his life, and has coached his children’s soccer teams from pre-school through high school.

Now his children are grown. His 23-year-old son lives in California, his 20-year-old son lives in Missouri, and his 18-year-old daughter attends college at Saint Louis University. He hopes she becomes a doctor.

His 93 year-old father also lives in Maryland Heights, and enjoys the Maryland Heights Centre’s senior aerobics three days every week. He credit’s the Centre for his father’s continuing health.

“He is in such great shape it’s unbelievable,” LaZear said.

LaZear told Maryland Heights Patch that he’s been interested in running for a long time. He wants to bring a “fresh view” to the council, if elected.  LaZear said he’s had a few frustrating dealings with the city over road construction before. He said the city took three years to finish constructions on Edgeworth Ave. — the Maryland Heights street on which LaZear lives.

LaZear will face off against Michael Hachmeister and David Taschner for the Ward 3 seat. Election day is April. 5.

Mr LaZear hopefully you will answer and post those answers to this web page that the Patch sent and your other two opponents have answered on some issue you might face and your thoughts on those issues.

My questions to you would be the same as I will ask the other two candidates. What is you feeling and how would you vote for commerical development around St Louis Counties Creve Coeur Park. The other politicans in this city seem dead intent on developing the flood plain that contains some of the most pristine farm land in the are to put up Big Box Stores and concerte warehouses. In my opinion they better pay attention to the West Port Industrial area and make sure that doesn't become a ghost and maybe these politicians are to drive a little north and look at all the vacant building in Earth City area.

Second how well funded are the pension plans for the city employees (eg police force ).

Third what can you bring to the citizens of Maryland Heights and do you consider yourself a Liberal or Conservative in your political beliefs?
