Swim with Your Pooch at Aquaport for Labor Day 2012
Each year, Aquaport is open for owners and their dogs to take a swim in the pool after it closes for the season. This year, residents can come out on Labor Day, Sept. 3, to join in the fun from 6:15-8:15 p.m.
There are always tons of events around town in St. Louis on Labor Day but not many where both you and your pooch can participate together in a unique, once-a-year event.
Labor Day 2012 offers Maryland Heights residents and their furry pals one last chance to cool off in the pool at the annual “Labor Day Dog Swim.”
Owners and their dogs can frolic in the pool after it closes for the season from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at Aquaport, located next to the Maryland Heights Community Centre.
“We’ve been having this event for about nine years now, and usually around 100-150 dogs and 200-250 people show up throughout the night," said Eilien Ramirez, facility supervisor.
The record number of dogs participating in this event comes close to 200, Ramirez said. Owners and the pooches have the option to go through the lazy river or just swim in the main pool.
“We even have the kiddie pool open for the small dogs,” Ramirez said.
Dogs must be at least six months old and wear an ID tag. In addition, current vaccination records (rabies and distemper) or a current Dogport tag is required.
Admission rates are $10 for one person and one dog, with an additional cost for another dog being $5 and an extra person $3.
For those wanting to reserve their place in advance, pre-register at the Maryland Heights Community Centre between Aug. 27 and Sept. 1. Registration is also available at the door the night of the event. The event is open to anyone interested.
