I am constantly being asked about which supplements people should start taking when they start to lose weight. Which fat burners are worth the money and all that kind of stuff.
The real truth is you don’t need to go break the bank and buy every single supplement out there. Because next week, they are going to be pushing a new supplement that just came in and it is going to blow your mind.
The fact is, a lot of the major muscle magazines and things along that line, are owned by the supplement companies. That’s why every time you turn the page, there is another advertisement. It’s not a magazine full of articles with a few ads, it’s the exact opposite. You actually have to go searching for the articles. And there are some really good fitness magazines out there, don’t get me wrong, that are really informative and beneficial.
But the truth is, no supplement will ever overtake your nutrition. You can’t ever take enough supplements that you can just stop addressing what you eat. Whether you are trying to gain weight and put on a lot of muscle, or just trying to lose weight, the gains you can get by proper nutrition and eating correctly will blow the results away of just trying to add supplements into your diet.
And as far as fat burners, one of the studies I read not too long ago, said on average, your fat burners burn an extra 75 calories per day. You could eat that many calories by accident. So don’t waste your money, especially for how much they cost.
And I’m not saying all supplements are bad, there are a few that are very beneficial. For one, protein powder. Some people don’t even think of this as a supplement but it is. And its not just for gaining weight. It can be super beneficial during fat loss. So don’t think of it as something you need only to gain weight and strength. Think of it as calories, it’s a meal or snack, same as any food but you don’t have to prepare it, you can just drink it down quickly, especially if you are short on time.
Another one is fish oil. This has obviously gained notoriety for the heart health effects, but its also been shown to burn more calories for you through out the day. As many as 500 extra calories per day. I will take that over your 75 calorie fat burner any day. You can also read a lot about Krill Oil too and other things, but just get something in along those lines.
And the last one I’ll talk about here, is a multi-vitamin. Its almost impossible nowadays to get in all the vitamins and nutrients in a single day. So take one of those to cover your bases.
There are a few others that work well too, but usually only when your nutrition is dialed in, but you can easily get by with just those three, and unless you are eating properly, you are going to be wasting your money on supplements anyway.
