April 28 Hailstorm, Maryland Heights

Are Maryland Heights citizens having problems with insurance companies and contractors due to April 28 hailstorm?

Are there other citizens of Maryland Heights who feel they are being given unfair treatment by their insurance companies?  Also, we've been informed that prices of building products such as shingles, are being jacked up to take advantage of the hailstorm damage.  Who in city government can address these issues for its citizens?  Any info anyone can give me will be very much appreciated.  Thank you, Marsha Hentzel

My friend in Maryland Heights insurance company totalled his truck BUT wants to deduct over $2100.oo because of "salvage value". The insurance agent said parts buyers would give $ 2100 for the truck. He called salvage yards and the average is $ 700. This is attempted felony fraud by the insurance company. I am a former insurance broker. Attorney General of Missouri will be brought into this.

Our insurance company does not care about being fair on our damages. They sent a check which won't even cover the roof replacement (we haven't cashed it).
The siding was put on by Thomas Siding with a very good warranty including hail damage, We read up on Thomas and it was supposed to be a trustworthy company. Thomas no longer has a color that matches at all and won't allow another contractor to order Royal siding and put it on as Thomas has "exclusive" rights to installing Royal siding. (Thomas also says it does not work with insurance companies - wish we'd known this up front.) Thomas has not gotten back to us on this after promising to do so. We've found out the hard way, it doesn't pay to install what we thought at the time was the best siding. We've hired a contractor to put the roof on and he said they would contact Thomas, so we're still waiting to see what's going to happen. We realize 100,000 claims have been filed but the insurance company's policy promises to restore the house to its before storm condition, less depreciation. (They even depreciated the cost of the tarp put on April 29 when they sent their settlement check, which is rather ironic.) I realize insurance has to make money too, but I doubt if we renew with them next year. Remains to be seem how things turn out. I'm hearing other "rumblings" about the bad word "insurance" right now.

Did you contact the Attorney General? Let me know how that goes. We're still waiting on answers and getting nothing. What is considered felony fraud? Thanks

Now I know why I'm noticing people taking all the salvageable parts off their late model totalled cars - stripping everything usable from them.

I just need to understand how the insurance company figures all this. Our check is made out to us and the mortage holder, they (mortage holder) will give us 1/3 at a time but how are we supposed to pay the roofers when we haven't recieved the money from the mortage holder. Mortage holder will give 2nd 1/3 after repairs are 1/2 completed, but roofers complete the job in one day, ***CONFUSED am I***

It's impossible to understand. Ask your roofers if they will wait. They should as they know how this crap goes. We're still struggling with ours but it's over the Royal siding warranty - they do most of the siding in this area and no one to work with you.
Did the roofers know you have a mortgage? We're also experiencing problems because the roofers are trying to work too fast and not doing it right, so watch that too. They've got to come back and do some repair work on the repair work. It's all absolutely crazy. Too many claims, too much heat and communication is difficult to say the least. Talk to your roofing company is all I can suggest. We certainly know how you feel!!
