Parkway Students Bid Fern Ridge High Adieu

Fern Ridge High School students and students enrolled in the Missouri Option Program walked away graduates on Friday.

Parkway School District's Fern Ridge High School saw another class of graduates claim their diplomas on Friday. The school graduated a total 26 seniors in 2012. Principal Rebecca Warren told the audience this year is the school's 20th aniversary. The school, she said, started in 1992 after several years of development. Fern Ridge is a non-traditional academic program, the school's website indicates—an alternative school where students must apply rather than be sent by parents or the court system. Thirty-seven Missouri Option Program (MOP) students also graduated with the Fern Ridge students. The graduation program indicates MOP "was developed for students who have the capability to complete the Missouri High School Graduation Requirements …

Parkway North Graduates: Check Our Gallery & Add Yours

Congratulations to the Class of 2012. You'll always be Vikings!

The Parkway North High School's Class of 2012 walked across the stage at the Greensfelder Recreation Complex at Queeny Park Tuesday night to shouts of support and rounds of applause for a job well done. Take a look at the photo gallery we’ve assembled, and make it better by adding yours. If you want to brag about a grad you know, or if you’re a grad who wants to thank those who helped you along the way, blog about it.   The Parkway North Class of 2012 earned more than $6 million in scholarships, and we’re more than a little proud of the fact that this year’s Valedictorian was also a Patch Whiz Kid.

YouTube Video of the Week: Albert Pujols' Statue Explodes

This week we found a video showing the Albert Pujols statue at Westport exploding.

Many videos from around Maryland Heights are on YouTube—and each week we're going to find the best of them. This week we've found a very odd video based on someone's frustration with the Albert Pujols statue. The video shows a rocket destroying the Westport Plaza-based statue, though clearly it's a work of fiction. Note: comments on the video's youtube page may contain language unsuitable for children. Know of other great YouTube videos from around Maryland Heights? Shoot a link to rob.mclean@patch.com and you might see it on Maryland Heights Patch!

Something tells me this video's author is upset Pujols left the Cardinals. That was a sentiment shared by a lot when the ball player made the announcement. Check out this video we made asking people what they thought of his decision to leave: http://marylandheights.patch.com/articles/westport-reacts-to-pujols-departure#video-8653638   more ›

How Will Harrah's Sale Affect Pattonville?

Pattonville CFO Ron Orr says its unclear how the casino's sale will affect Pattonville's bottom line.

The Pattonville School District could see an increase in revenue due to the sale of Harrah’s Casino. Ron Orr, Pattonville’s chief financial officer, said the $610 million sales tag is more than either the St. Louis County Assessor or the St. Louis County Board of Equalization valued the facility. Penn National bought the property for $108 million more than the county assessor estimated Harrah's was worth, and $395 million more than the County Board of Equalization estimated. The Board of Equalization valued Harrah’s at $215 million in September, while County Assessor Jake Zimmerman’s assessment was $502 million. But it’s still hard to predict what will happen, Orr said. Pattonville’s revenue is based on the combined property tax rates of …
