Hollywood, Ameristar Casinos Continue Revenue Dip in January

Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights and Ameristar Casino in St. Charles both reported revenue drops in January 2013. And overall, the St. Louis-area casino market continued to slide in revenue when compared to previous years.

Aside from the Casino Queen in East St. Louis, Hollywood Casino St. Louis in Maryland Heights saw the biggest revenue drop month-over-month in the St. Louis market.  According to the St. Louis Business Journal, Hollywood Casino saw revenue drop last month by 6 percent, to $19.4 million compared with January 2012. The drop is part of an overall trend in the St. Louis casino industry, where nearly every area casino saw revenue dips in January.  Overall, according to the Business Journal report, revenue at the six St. Louis-area casinos totaled $83 million in January, down 4 percent from the same month last year. St. Charles, Maryland Heights Prepare For Loss In Casino Revenue

Total revenues at Harrah's and Ameristar are down by only 3 percent, but city officials are planning for larger losses in revenue.

With the recent economic downturn, officials from the cities of St. Charles and Maryland Heights say they are expecting less revenue from state casinos.  Revenues from both Harrah’s Casino in Maryland Heights and Ameristar Casino in St. Charles are down by 3 percent since last year. However, Harrah’s total revenues in July were up by 14 percent and Ameristar’s July revenue increased by 11.7 percent.  To make up for the expected loss in gaming funds, both cities have allocated less money from the gaming tax into this year’s budgets. Gambling seemed like it should be such an intuitive leap for a geek like me. After all, I own plenty of cards at home. Okay, they’re for Dominion, Bang, and because I’m a girl, Lost Cities. I also own plenty of dice at home. Alright, most of them have 20 sides, though in a pinch I can always whip out my iPhone DiceBag app if for some reason I need a four or eight sider.
