Blanchette Bridge Closing for 1-Hour Tuesday

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be performing repairs.

If you are heading into or out of St. Charles County today, you may want to take an alternate route. The Missouri Department of Transportation will close the Blanchette Missouri River Bridge today for an hour. Crews will close the right lane of eastbound Interstate 70 for maintenance repairs. The work will occur from approximately 9 to 10 a.m. MoDOT advises motorists are to slow down and watch for crews working in the right lane.   The speed limit on the bridge is posted at 45 mph for the work zone. Man Leaves Accident on Blanchette Bridge, Racks Up Fourth DWI Charge in Two Years

Bart Laster, of St. Charles, has three previous alcohol-related driving convictions and faces three additional DWI charges.

A St. Charles man faces his fifth DWI charge within the last two years and his sixth alcohol-related driving charge overall. He was pulled over after leaving an accident scene at the Blanchette Bridge Wednesday, police said. Bart Laster, 40, of the 1000 block of Cole Boulevard in St. Charles, was charged Wednesday with driving while intoxicated as an aggravated offender and leaving the scene of an accident. A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper said Laster was eastbound on Interstate 70 on the Blanchette Bridge when he caused an accident. He left the scene, but was pulled over by Maryland Heights Police. Emergency Lane Closure On I-70 Tonight

MoDOT will make an emergency repair to a broken grate on westbound I-70.

One lane on westbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Missouri River Bridge will be closed from 2:30 p.m. through evening rush hour on Jan. 31 for emergency repairs to a broken drain grate, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.  Motorists are advised to avoid westbound I-70 for evening rush and use Route 370 or Route 364 as alternate Missouri River crossings.  The additional lane reduction will leave only two lanes open for westbound I-70. Both directions of I-70 are already reduced from five lanes in each direction down to three lanes in each direction and all traffic is using the eastbound bridge. Hundreds Turn Out for Blanchette Bridge Blast

St. Charles County Area Engineer Tom Evers said blast was successful with only superficial damage to one of the piers.

Contractors for the Missouri Department of Transportation blasted the westbound span of the Blanchette Bridge, which connects Maryland Heights to St. Charles County, Tuesday morning while a crowd of hundreds watched from the riverfront in St. Charles.  The steel in the top of the bridge was blasted while the piers will be rehabbed. St. Charles County Area Engineer Tom Evers said it appeared one center piers had superficial damage to it.  Crews have 24 hours to remove the section closest to St. Louis County from the river and 48 hours to remove the rest of the steel.  Crowds gathered on the riverfront near Bishop's Landing wondered what would happen to the birds during the blast.  "We set charges to scare the fish away before we do the real…

Second Blanchette Bridge Blast Set for Tomorrow

This blast will be visible from the St. Charles riverfront for public viewing. The blast will only lasts a moment, but it will drop more than 1,000 feet of truss, including 4.5 million pounds of steel into the Missouri River.

Another bridge blast is planned for Tuesday, Missouri Department of Transportation officials say. Weather permitting, portions of Interstate 70 over the Missouri River will close Tuesday, Dec. 4. The closure is expected to be for one hour. Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be blasting the remaining two sections of the steel truss on the closed westbound I-70 Blanchette Bridge. Sections of the bridge were blown up earlier in November.  Road crews will close one lane of I-70 in both directions at 9 a.m. An hour later, at 10 a.m., all eastbound I-70 traffic will be detoured off the highway at Route 94 and directed to Route 364 where they can proceed eastbound on Route 364 to Interstate 270 and back north to I-70. Blanchette Bridge Blast Planned for Sunday

Interstate 70 will be closed Sunday from 10 to 11 a.m. Vehicles will be detoured to Interstate 364 and Interstate 270.

Interstate 70 will shut down entirely near the Blanchette Bridge on Sunday around 10 a.m. while crews blast part of the truss on the westbound span, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. Traffic will close for about an hour to allow crews time to clear the area, remove the debris and inspect the eastbound span of the bridge for safety. In addition, the KATY Trail near the bridge, Bangert Island Conservation Area and parts of Riverwoods Trail will be closed near the bridge. A portion of Ameristar Casino will be evacuated near the trail and the casino plans to restrict portions of the parking garage close to the bridge. Photos of the Blanchette Bridge Demolition

Construction crews have removed 300 feet of the westbound portion of the Blanchette Bridge deck, MoDot says.

From the Missouri Department of Transportation: These photos were taken in the past two days of the demolition of the westbound I-70 Blanchette Missouri River bridge. As of this morning, crews have removed 240 feet of the westbound bridge deck and expect to have 300+ feet removed by the end of the day shift. They are working two shifts per day to remove all the concrete off the old bridge.
