In an effort to get work done to prepare for the closure of the Blanchette Bridge the first weekend of November, MoDOT crews will be shutting down three lanes starting at 8 p.m. on Friday.
The Missouri Department of Transportation is making a final push toward the Nov. 2 closure of the westbound Blanchette Bridge in St. Charles. Just a week after the eastbound lanes were closed, MoDOT crews will be doing significant work this weekend to on the westbound lanes. To prepare for the bridge closure, three lanes on westbound Interstate 70 at Earth City Expressway/Route 141 will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct 26 until 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28. Even with the closures, at least two westbound lanes will remain open to traffic throughout the weekend. Walsh Contracting Co. has set a closure date of Nov. 4 for the westbound span of the bridge, said Tom Evers, MoDOT area engineer. "That's the goal and it is weather permitting, but right now that's the schedule," he said. One lane in each direction on Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Bridge will close starting Friday for three weeks. The Missouri Department of Transportation will close the median lanes between Fifth Street in St. Charles and Earth City Expressway between Sept. 14 and Oct. 9 so crews can build a crossover in the median. When the westbound I-70 bridge closes in November, cars will cross from the westbound lane to the eastbound bridge which will have three lanes in each direction and then back to the westbound lane of I-70 once they have crossed the river. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will hold a meeting at the Maryland Heights Government Center focusing on the I-70 Blanchette Bridge project. The public meeting, to be held on May 30 at 7 p.m., will address the $63 million project that will rehabilitate the Blanchette Bridge, according to MoDOT documents. A timeline indicates MoDOT will make bridge repairs over Earth City between June and August. Visit MoDOT’s website for more information, including videos illustrating areas to be rehabilitiated. Are you kidding me, of course the traffic will be a mess. Remember highway 40? We can only go to work a couple of ways. Right now highway 70 is a mess downtown, the express lanes are closed and they only have 2 lanes open going east bound. Sit in that traffic everyday and then tell me the Blancehett will be better. more ›
