The Pattonville Board of Education will review a transition plan for Briar Crest Elementary School, which will close at the end of this school year. In October, the board approved the closure of the school for budget-saving measures, and the board must approve a transition plan for the steps that will be taken to move the students to their new schools, according to the board agenda. With 216 students enrolled, the school is the smallest elementary school in the district. The district will save approximately $700,000 per year with the school’s closing, Superintendent Michael Fulton said. Pattonville School District officials don't have immediate plans on closing any other schools other than Briar Crest Elementary after this school year.
Closing Briar Crest Elementary would save the Pattonville School District $700,000 per year, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. That was one of the main takeaways from a parents meeting at the school on Monday. Pattonville officials announced they would try and close Briar Crest on Friday. Now, it's up to school board members to determine if that's the best course of action.
