Polar Plungers create a Harlem Shake video after diving in the icy waters of Creve Coeur Lake.
The Maryland Heights Polar Plunge happened nearly a month ago, but Patch just learned of a Harlem Shake video on YouTube that features doznes of plungers, including Shiver Bear. Roughly 800 people took the cold dive into Creve Coeur Lake for the annual Polar Plunge on Feb. 23. Sponsored by Special Olympics of Missouri, the 2013 Polar Plunge was in its seventh consecutive year. Funds raised by the event went toward helping with sports programming and tournaments held throughout the year, Jocelyn Diehl, St. Louis metro area director of Special Olympics, said.

The second victim of a plane crash in Maryland Heights on Oct. 24 died Monday evening.
Suzanne Hazelton, a passenger in the small-engine plane that crashed into Creve Coeur Lake Oct. 24, died at SSM DePaul hospital, according to hospital spokesperson Rachel Piney. Piney tells Patch, Suzanne passed away around 5:30 p.m. Monday. Russell Hazelton, the pilot of the plane that crashed into Creve Coeur Lake this week, died overnight. Hazelton's wife, Suzanne, remains in critical condition. Friends say the loss will have an enormous impact on their neighborhood.

A single no vote received loud applause from about 70 people in the crowd and a partial standing ovation during the Maryland Heights Planning Commission meeting. But the Maryland Heights Planning Commission voted 4-1 Tuesday night to approve the Maryland Pointe conceptual development plan with conditions. Commissioner Mark Madden cast the only vote opposing the 191-acre development in Howard’s Bend, just northwest of Creve Coeur Park. He received the sustained applause for his vote. Vito Lucido, limited to a wheelchair to get around on land, gets across the surface of a lake much faster. He's been water skiing since 1998. He used to play wheelchair rugby and tennis, but he's 47 now, so skiing is his main thing— and helping others with disabilities ski, too. He and professional skier Kevin Day formed the Missouri Disabled Water Ski Association (MDWSA) in 2007. Now the group meets annually at Creve Coeur Lake with 25-40 disabled skiers, as well as lots of volunteers, for a day on the lake. Three ski boats pulled skiers on special $2,000 skis equipped with special seats. Visually-impaired skiers hung onto a boom out the side of the boat. Maryland Heights Police say the vehicle was reported stolen from St. Louis city.
Update, 8:57 a.m.: Police found the car's keys still in the ignition, according to the weekend Police Blotter. The vehicle's stereo was missing, and the center console was damaged. Original article: Passers-bys called the Maryland Heights Police early Monday morning to report a car submerged in Creve Coeur Lake. Officer Steve Osterloh of the Maryland Heights Police Department said the car was driven into the lake and still visible from the roadway. He said the vehicle was reported stolen from St. Louis city. Officials retrieved the vehicle with a tow truck. KSDK previously reported the report came around 3 a.m. The news agency said no one was in the vehicle.
