Maryland Heights' Blockbuster to Stay Open After Latest Store Closing Sweep

Dish Network, which owns Blockbuster, is closing nine of St. Louis' 16 Blockbusters. The location in Maryland Heights, though, will remain open.

Never heard of Netflix? Haven't seen a Redbox nearby? Still love browsing movies in actual stores? Do you live in or near Maryland Heights? Well then, there's good news for you. Dish Network Corp., which owns Blockbuster, plans to close nine stores in the St. Louis-area this spring. The Blockbuster in Maryland Heights, located at the Dorsett Road and McKelvey Road intersection will remain open. The closures are part of an announced plan to close 300 stores across the country. According to a story in the Denver Post, the closures include stores which were underperforming or were near the end of their leases.  About 500 Blockbuster stores were closed last year including 10 of 26 locations in St. Louis area, according to a story in the St. …
