"St. Louis Post-Dispatch" reported cold medicines, which can be used to make meth, grew 59 percent in Maryland Heights.
More people are buying cold medicines which have a potential to be used in creating meth. St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported pseudoephedrine drug sales grew by 59 percent in Maryland Heights. The article states also the cold medicine sale surge happened in St. Charles and Chesterfield. Walgreens spokesman Robert Elfinger told the news site that the sale increase was due to law abiding citizens, while Franklin Sheriff County Department's Sgt. Jason Grellner said the increase is due to meth chemists. If Grellner is right, meth isn't the only problem drug facing Maryland Heights. The St. Louis County Police held a forum in June at Pattonville High School to inform residents about a growing heroin problem. Police have seen several on the …

Theft, DWIs and minors in possession of alcohol top this weekend's crime in Maryland Heights.
Maryland Heights police officers had their hands full this weekend with thefts—among them stealing within a family to support a drug habit. Patch recently covered a town hall meeting where St. Louis County Police and drug counseling professionals discussed a rise in heroin use among teens. Maryland Heights Police Chief Tom O'Connor spoke briefly at the presentation. He said the Maryland Heights Police Department had a significant number of calls for emergency responders due to drugs. Police responded also to DWIs and property damage this weekend. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty. June 24 June 25 June 26 June 27

St. Louis County Police and drug treatment professionals were in Maryland Heights to talk about heroin's dangers Thursday night.
St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch once talked with a young woman arrested for buying heroin. She was from Ballwin, and told Finch she got hooked because she was battling depression. The first time she tried it, according to Fitch, she got a high that she hasn’t been able to achieve since. According to a heroin addiction website, one of the drug's most insidious qualities is that is sends the addict on a quest to repeat that first high, usually a fruitless journey. Heroin addiction isn’t a light switch you can turn off and on, Fitch told a crowded audience at Pattonville High School Thursday night. Fitch was part of a public forum about heroin use among teens. The forum featured St. Louis County Police, the National Council on …

Express Scripts customers who get their medications at the Walgreens in Maryland Heights have until Jan. 1 to choose a new drug store.
The Express Scripts website press room features a news release expressing shock about the decision by Walgreen’s to stop filling prescriptions for the pharmacy provider network based in North St. Louis County. You will find a news release on the matter on the Walgreens website, too. This quote from a Walgreens press release points to a breakdown where many contract negotiations often come to an impasse: money. “Walgreens is committed to providing quality, convenient and cost-effective pharmacy services to our patients, but we cannot continue to deliver these services under the terms and rates Express Scripts offered. As the largest retail provider in their pharmacy network, we were surprised by Express Scripts’ ultimate stance during our…

"Patch" speaks with school, law and medical professionals about students and drugs.
The St. Louis County Police will hold a forum about a rise in heroin and prescription pain killer use among teens on Thursday, June 23 at 7 p.m. The forum will be held at Pattonville High School, according to a press release. This issue goes beyond St. Louis. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, prescription drugs and over-the-counter medication are the second drug of choice among 12th graders—just behind marijuana. Narcotics Anonymous groups in the St. Louis area have several helplines available for drug users seeking help. D.A.R.E. photographs in video are courtesy of Pattonville School District.

Lazy Cakes, "The Relaxation Brownie," hit West County gas stations. Its manufacturer says it contains melatonin to relax the consumer, but people that "Patch" spoke with say that news isn't relaxing at all.
They may look like a regular brownie, but Lazy Cakes, the "relaxation brownies," are not made with grandma's usual recipe. In fact some say the packaging is designed to resemble a "pot brownie." Patch visited a number of local gas stations and convenience stores and found the treat at Manchester gas stations, but did not locate it in Town and Country. We also found some gas stations have recently pulled the item from shelves. According to the ingredients listed on the packaging, Lazy Cakes contain eight milligrams of melatonin, a hormone usually marketed as a sleeping aid. The brownies cost $2.99 each and gas stations, and convenience stores in the nation have been selling this product for a few months now. In fact, according to a May …
