Second DWI Brings Felony Charge for Maryland Heights Man

Maryland Heights Police said they pulled the man over near his home and he registered a 0.161 percent blood-alcohol content.

A Maryland Heights man faces a criminal charge for his second time caught driving while intoxicated, police said. Khari Rufus, 39, of the 12200 block of Corrida Court in Maryland Heights, was charged Dec. 21 with DWI as a persistent offender, a class D felony. Maryland Heights Police said officers spotted Rufus driving and showing signs of intoxication on April 22, 2012 near his home, exactly six years after his first DWI incident. An officer pulled him over and Rufus did poorly on a sobriety test, and then tested at 0.161 percent on a breathalyzer, more than twice the legal limit. Rufus was charged with second-degree assault in Jennings for causing an accident April 22, 2006 while driving intoxicated. Two people were injured. He was …
