The Maryland Heights Planning Commission meeting will feature two agenda items for which residents likely will pack the city hall meeting room at 7 p.m. Tuesday. One item is the last public hearing on the Maryland Pointe proposal before the commission votes on the issue. The second is the city staff report on the Maryland Pointe proposal by the developer. Community Development Director and City Planner Wayne Oldroyd will give the report. The proposal seeks to redesignate a 191-acre site just northwest of Creve Coeur Park from non-urban to mixed use. A standing room only crowd packed the Maryland Heights Government Center meeting room Tuesday to voice its opinions and hear the Maryland Pointe LLC group give its presentation on plans for a retail development in Howard Bend area. The Maryland Pointe development group has request to rezone a 191-acre area on both sides of Maryland Heights Expressway north of River Valley Drive in the Howard Bend area. The Maryland Heights Planning Commission held a public hearing on the issue Tuesday. Ten people who spoke during the public hearing opposed the Maryland Pointe LLC’s development west of Creve Coeur Park. Their comments were greeted by applause from the crowd of about 120 people. The Maryland Heights Citizens for Responsible Growth opposes the proposal to put retail space near Creve Coeur Park.
A proposal regarding retail development in the Howard Bend area will get its first public hearing Tuesday night. The Maryland Heights Planning Commission will host a public hearing on the Maryland Pointe regional retail center in the Howard Bend area at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Maryland Heights Government Center. During the meeting, the development group--Maryland Pointe LLC--will present its plans for the 191-acre site. Public comment will follow. Currently, the Howard Bend site is farmland just northwest of Creve Coeur Park. The area is in the floodplain, but is protected by the Howard Bend Levee District’s levee, which should provide protection for up to a 500-year flood.
