The candidates, incumbents and issues that will affect Maryland Heights and St. Louis County.
As we close in on November’s elections, Creve Coeur Patch is devoted to bringing you the information you need about every race in town. In addition to our own coverage, we will be inviting candidates in every race to upload information about their campaigns directly to this site. You will definitely want to bookmark this page for updates. U.S. Senate Claire McCaskill's bid for re-election will be closely watched by the entire nation in part because of her close ties to President Obama's 2008 campaign. The fiercely-fought GOP primary saw U.S. Rep. Todd Akin (R-Wildwood), emerge victorious, only to be under fire a few weeks later because of comments he mde in a television interview regarding pregnancy and rape. A September 25 deadline …

U.S. Rep. Todd Akin wins the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate. Businessman Dave Spence wins the GOP nomination for governor.
A state constitutional amendment touted as a "right to pray" provision has won by better than a four-to-one margin. Proponents say Amendment 2 protects the right of Missourians to pray in public. Opponents of the measure say those protections are already guaranteed in the Bill of Rights and the amendment would be a boon for lawyers, who will battle in court over unintended consequences spawned by the provision. Meanwhile in the race for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate, U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, R-Wildwood, has won. The Springfield News-Leader declared Akin the winner with about 80 percent of votes tallied. Akin faced down challengers Sarah Steelman, the former state treasurer, and businessman John Brunner has 29 percent. In the race for the …

Patch 'Blue Arch' participants favored the Frontenac businessman over U.S. Rep. Todd Akin and former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman.
The re-election campaign of Missouri U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill has made headlines for a television ad strategy that goes after each of the three main Republican contenders in the GOP primary. Political observers have wondered aloud if the ad approach shines more favorably on U.S. Rep. Todd Akin in hopes that the Wildwood Republican emerges in Tuesday's election. But a Patch Blue Arch survey out Monday indicates Democrats may be most concerned if businessman John Brunner defeats Akin and former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman. More than 50 influential Democrats were asked using an automated survey tool what they thought about a variety of questions tied to the Senate primary, among other topics. Twenty-nine responses were collected, and…

Use of Marine Corps logo may be in violation of military trademark guidelines.
John Brunner's United States Senate campaign is taking a United States Marine Corps logo off a campaign bus after Creve Coeur Patch questioned if the logo may have been used in violation of Marine Corps trademark guidelines. Brunner served in the Marines as an Infantry Officer, rose to the rank of Captain, and leans on his military experience on the campaign stump and in advertising. Check out the Patch Election Guide ahead of Tuesday's Primary But according to the Marine Corps Trademark and Licensing Program, using the branch's logo as the Brunner campaign has with a small logo on the rear of a campaign bus, could be considered a problem. I'm running for a political office and am a former Marine. Can I use Marine Corps trademarks on my …

Candidates are pushing their 'Get Out The Vote' message hard in the last days of the Primary campaign.
John Brunner has spent a considerable amount of time and his own personal fortune, criss-crossing the state of Missouri and advertising his candidacy in the U.S. Senate primary. Now, with Tuesday's election fast-approaching, it's down to motivating volunteers to scratch for every vote, trying to make sure "Get Out The Vote" efforts are cranked up to get people to the polls. That was the order of the night Friday at the campaign's headquarters in Creve Coeur as the candidate rallied his team. The event was a far-cry from the much-hyped appearance Friday in Kansas City by former GOP Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who came to Missouri to support former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman's campaign. "It's not about celebrities coming in," …

Brunner was the headliner in a handful of local and state candidates that spoke at the library.
Two dozen GOP faithful showed up for a meeting Wednesday at the Maplewood Public Library sponsored by the Hadley Township Republicans. John Brunner, candidate for U.S. Senate was the main attraction, but a handful of candidates or their representative were there as well. Isaac Roberts represented Sarah Steelman, running against Brunner for U.S. Senate. Becky Davidson represented Bill Randles, for governor. Robyn Hamlin, running for Congress in the 1st Congressional District, was there in person. Hadley Township Committeeman Dan O’Sullivan ran the meeting. After explaining some …

The inaugural Red Arch survey asked more than 50 influential Republicans questions tied to the GOP primary.
If the election were held today, political insiders in Missouri say U.S. Representative Todd Akin (R-Wildwood) would narrowly edge businessman John Brunner for their support for the Republican nomination to face U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill. That's the main finding of the inaugural Red Arch survey conducted by Missouri Patch sites. More than 50 influential Republicans, primarily from the St. Louis area, were asked using an automated survey tool what they thought about a variety of questions relating to the U.S. Senate primary race. Thirty-three responses were collected. A majority (51.5 percent) of respondents said they would back Rep. Akin over Brunner (45.5 percent) if the election were held today. Former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman …
