Girl Scout Cookie Sales Safe in Maryland Heights

City Council passed a new chapter to the municipal code that simplifies rules for peddlers and solicitors.

Girl Scouts hoping to sell Thin Mints, Do-Si-Dos and other cookies don’t have to worry about an addition to the Maryland Heights municipal code. The City Council passed the change Thursday, along with 10 other pieces of legislation. The change lets itinerant merchants operate year-round, if they choose to. These merchants, if operating on private property, will need to comply with three requirements. Councilman Ed Dirck asked city staff members if the new municipal code chapter would affect Girl Scouts from selling cookies. City staff members said it would not. The City of Hazelwood was recently sued after it prevented Girl Scouts from selling their cookies.  The City Council passed 10 other pieces of legislation that night. The next …

Maryland Heights City Council Hears Objection to Removing an Item from the Agneda

The Maryland Heights City Council considered several pieces of legislation May 19.

The Maryland Heights City Council meeting kicked off to a heated exchange over the removal of an agenda item Thursday night — one that dealt with waffles. City Attorney Howard Paperner requested item 12, an ordinance repealing a planned district ordinance, amending ordinances and enacting a new ordinance in lieu of thereof to modify the permitted uses,  be postponed for further review until next council meeting. The legislation would modify the allowed uses for 3.5 acres of land on the north side of Dorsett Road, east of I-270 according to the agenda obtained at the council meeting.
