Schnucks Grocery Chain Launches Online Video Game 'Qualityville'

Starting this weekend, the company began using "gamification" to engage customers in Maryland Heights and beyond.

Popular games like Farmville and Mafia Wars have brought a bigger online presence to the social networking site Facebook. Now Schnucks is getting in on the game.  Schnucks has launched its online game, Qualityville, for customers to learn more about the Schnucks stores and have fun while doing it. Director of communications for Schnucks Lori Willis said that the game could be described as “educainment,” as the stores seek to educate and entertainment at the same time. “We believe our reputation for quality is known, but the rest of the story needs to be told,” she said. “We’ve tried to answer questions that they might not know to ask.” The game will run for eight weeks, until July 13. Maryland Yards Wants To Be Your Second Living Room

The neighborhood bar sees Facebook as the best way to keep in touch with locals.

Missy Matthews, owner of Maryland Yards, wasn’t originally sold on the usefulness of social media. She found MySpace more confusing than helpful and Twitter never generated any followers for her. However, she was open to the suggestion when her employee Sharon Kirnbauer volunteered to start a Facebook page for Maryland Yards. A year later, Matthews sees Facebook as a vital part of her marketing. “We don’t have a giant budget to advertise in the Riverfront Times or the Post-Dispatch,” Matthews said. “We’ve  been lucky to use something like Facebook. We’re reaching a lot more people, and since they have to accept you as a friend on Facebook, it’s all people who already come here and love it.” In addition to posting the lunch special every …
