Erin Collier and Katie Mertz signed letters of intent Wednesday.
The following information was provided by the Pattonville School District: Two Pattonville High School seniors signed letters of intent on Feb. 6 to play college-level women's soccer after they graduate this spring. Erin Collier signed a letter of intent to play soccer on scholarship at Southwestern Illinois College, and Katie Mertz signed to play at Maryville University. Both girls have been on Pattonville's varsity soccer team since they were freshmen, playing on two conference championship teams and three district championship teams. Their team finished second in the state in 2010. The 2012 team ended its season with a 21-6 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals. Several local students made Maryville University's honor list.
Maryville Unversity announced its Fall Semester 2012 Honor's List. Several local students made the cut. Local honorees include: Part-time undergraduate students who carry at least six semester credit-hours, with 50 percent or less graduate courses, and who maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 (perfect) scale are eligible for this academic honor. Heather Sprengel had a hard time deciding where to attend college. “I didn’t decide until the second or third week of May (of her senior year),” said Sprengel, a 2011 Pattonville High School graduate. But she hasn’t had any regrets in choosing Maryville University over runner-up Lindenwood University in St. Charles. Once at Maryville, she dived in with both feet just as she did at Pattonville, where she was student council president, a cheerleader and ranked ninth in a class of about 400. At Maryville, Sprengel not only is taking on academic challenge such as honors history, but is cheerleading and running for student senate as well.
