An organized movement of strikes began in St. Louis and is spreading across the region. Employees at McDonald's in North St. Louis County, and Jimmy John's took to the picket lines Wednesday. Employees at 20 fast food locations will strike Thursday.
People peacefully gathered and marched in front of a Ferguson McDonald's Restaurant today. You could hear the group of about 100 chanting during the strike," We started from the bottom and now we're here; $7.35 just ain't fair." There was also, "We want change and we ain't talking about pennies." As well, a whole host of additional songs. But for all the people smiling, the subject at hand was serious. The crowd gathered as part of a movement to unionize fast food restaurants throughout the St. Louis Region. Employees at the Ferguson McDonald's, located at 9131 W. Florissant, stood outside in plain clothes around 3:45 p.m., and protested for respect through better pay and improved working conditions. Shannon Garth-Rhodes, spokesperson with…

Two Maryland Heights Patch readers have left nasty reviews of the McDonald's off Dorsett Road. Is it really that bad?
Is the McDonald's restaurant off Dorsett Road the worst in the country when it comes to customer service? At least two Maryland Heights Patch readers seem to think so. On Tuesday, Donna H, a Maryland Heights Patch reader, left this review of the restaurant, located on 12680 Dorsett Rd.: This McDonald's has absolutely the WORST service. The orders are wrong, and the employees don't care. I worked at McDonald's (Hwy 367) back in the early 70's. This terrible service and employee attitude would never have been tolerated. Over the years I have been to many McDonald’s and this one is by far at the bottom. Why can’t they get their act together? Management needs to be replaced and all the workers need to be re-trained. Here at Patch, we thought…

Patrons will be able to find the calorie count on all their favorite McDonald's foods.
Last week McDonald’s announced that it would join the list of a small number of restaurants that provide calorie information on their menus. McDonald’s stated in their press release that labeling of menus was a part of an overall nutrition plan. In addition to the inclusion of calories on the menus, something that will start this week, in 2013 McDonald’s will test foods that will increase the number of wholesome choices on their menus. Using the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans as a guide, McDonalds’ will include more recommended food groups in the following ways: These plans follow the introduction this past summer of “Favorites Under 400” a menu that highlights information on customer favorite foods and beverages. Last March the …

In a society that is already plagued with obesity and weight issues, Starbucks announces a new extra large size that is already causing controversy.
I am not a Starbucks enthusiast by any stretch of the imagination, but I do enjoy a good cup of coffee or hot cocoa every now and then from the Espresso drink giant. While I perused the Internet yesterday, I read that Starbucks will be offering a new size to their customers — a 31 ounce Trenta for those who need more to drink when the 25 ounce Venti isn't enough. Some would say the Trenta is Starbucks' "super-size." But Starbucks is quick to point out that the Trenta would have less than 90 calories if unsweeted and no more than 230 calories if sugar is added. And the Trenta is only available for iced drinks only, so for those that want a Trenta for their cappuccino, that is still not an option. Bloggers and pundits are weighing in on the …
