Hazelwood School District Serves as Site for Common Core Meeting

The Missouri Department of Education will host one of eight statewide meetings in North County.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will host a number of statewide informational meetings on the state’s Common Core Standards, which includes a site in North St. Louis County. The Hazelwood School District will serve as a site for one of eight statewide meetings regarding the standards Thursday evening. The Common Core Standards are a part of a nationwide initiative to have a set of clearly defined educational standards in language arts and math for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Missouri is one of 45 states to adopt the standards. Hazelwood School District serves as the closest site to Pattonville school districts. Pattonville Officials See How District Stacks Up Against Other Missouri Schools

At Tuesday's Pattonville Board special work session, math placement and ACT scores were among the rankings presented for how the district shapes up with other Missouri school as part of the MSIP4 requirements.

The Pattonville School District Board of Education shared the progress of the district pertaining to the MSIP4 standards. The Board looked at the progress in light of the future as to how they can improve students scores and learning for the new upcoming MSIP5 requirements. MSIP5, or Missouri School Improvement Plan 5, sets accreditation and performance standards for Missouri schools. At the June 2012 meeting of the Missouri State Board of Education, the board expressed unanimous support for the fifth cycle of the MSIP and new scoring guide. The scoring guide is a tool the state uses to measure each district’s progress towards meeting state standards and to create each district’s annual performance report.
