Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows Missourians are collectively getting fatter each year. Start Your New Year Off With An Open House At The YMCA

Fulfill your resolution to live a healthy life by checking out the YMCA's facilities during the open house on New Year's Day.

Edward Jones Family YMCA will be open to the public on January 1, 10 a.m.—2 p.m. so individuals can make good on their resolutions to live healthily. During the open house, the public can take part in classes, try out the facilities, participate in special activities and receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last). In addition, for those who decide to join the YMCA will waive the joining fee and will take half-off the first month’s automatic draft membership fee. Monthly fees are $52 for individuals; $78 for households. This special is good from now until the end of January. For more information, call (314) 439-9622.

This is the time of year that most of us begin contemplating our New Year's resolutions — which usually amount to losing weight, spending more time with family and saving more money. But have you considered looking within Maryland Heights for your 2011 goals and plans? Like most people, I take Maryland Heights, the wonderful community I live in, for granted. But writing for Patch has given me a newfound appreciation for my St. Louis suburb and the places and things that surround it.
