Snow Causes Leaky Roof At Parkway North

There's too much snow on the roof to do anything about it yet, a spokeswoman tells Patch.

Students and staff at Parkway North High School got more than just an extra day of spring break from the Palm Sunday snowstorm. They also found a leaking roof. A district spokesperson confirms eight leaks in the roof, only one of which impacted a classroom, where students were relocated. Cathy Kelly, Parkway's Communications Coordinator, said it was too dangerous for crews to get out onto the roof yet with the amount of snow on it.  Parkway Schools will be in session through Thursday, with a previously scheduled off day Friday.

Parkway North Hurlers Out To Prove 2012 Was No Fluke

Joe Hope and Joey Reeves look forward to full season with the varsity squad after last season's meteoric rise and a ride to the state final four.

When Parkway North needed a boost last season, Head Coach Fred Friedman tapped a pair of pitchers who didn't start the year on varsity. Joe Hope and Joey Reeves came up from the JV squad and pitched the Vikings to a magical run to the state final four in Springfield.  All Hope, then a Sophomore (7-1, 3.40 ERA) did was shut out a Westminster Christian Academy team that's been the best in the state the past two seasons. He also threw a no-hitter in the state semifinal.  Just a Freshman, Reeves (3-0, 1.58 ERA) was masterful in a state quarterfinal win over SLUH, before shoulder tendinitis and what was diagnosed as a stress fracture in his collarbone caught up with him in the state championship game against Rockwood Summit. But that was last …

Hurricane Sandy Provides Prospective For Parkway Principal On Being Thankful

Jenny Marquart was planning to run the New York City Marathon earlier this month.

Parkway North High School Principal Jenny Marquart shared this story as part of her November e-news bulletin to district patrons. Running in the New York City Marathon has been one of my goals since I ran my first marathon eight years ago.  For years I have heard conversations among other runners as they described the crowds and the route and how the whole city encourages the marathoners as they run through every borough of New York.   I am not a fast runner so if I were going to be selected to run in the New York City Marathon, it would have to be through the lottery system they use.  You can imagine my excitement last spring when I got word that I was selected—I would be running in the New York City Marathon on November 4, 2012!   The …

County Police: Third Attack May Be Linked to Rapes Near Maryland Heights

St. Louis County Police urge people to come forward with reports on other attacks or information on possible suspects.

The St. Louis County and Maryland Heights police departments hosted a town hall meeting Tuesday night at Parkway North High School to help inform residents about new developments. About 200 people attended the meeting, which included a free self-defense class led by volunteers from Midwest Krav Magra. “My 32 years of police work tells me this individual will not stop until he’s caught,” St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch told the crowd at the town hall meeting. He said he worked on the South Side Rapist case, which took 25 years to solve. “We want to get information out to people …
