I have lived in the Manchester area since 1982, and I have had 3 children all attend Parkway schools. I currently operate the oldest and largest Jewish cemetery in St. Louis--New Mt. Eight candidates have filed to run for two seats on the Parkway School District Board of Education in the Apri 2 election. As we approach the election, Patch will send each candidate a questionnaire to help empower voters to cast their ballots for the candidates they believe in. The Parkway School District held the final in a series of four public presentations and feedback-gathering sessions and will vote on a proposal to cut $3-4 million from the 2013-14 budget this week.
With the last of its public budget meetings conducted last week, Parkway School District officials said it is ready to bring a proposal to cut $3.3-4.1 million over the next two years before the school board for a vote this week. The meeting at Parkway Central High School was the final in a series of four presentations at various district high schools to present information on the cuts and gather input from residents on the plan. School Board President Beth Feldman said the feedback at the meetings has not produced any broad themes or major criticisms, so herself and her fellow board members will likely vote on the package as it has been presented at their meeting Wednesday. “I think the issues that have come up seem to be issues that …

Missouri's Governor was at Oak Brook Elementary School in Ballwin Thursday.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon reinforced some already-stated education policy goals Thursday in a St. Louis County visit ahead of Monday's State of The State address, and also discussed school security in a visit to Oak Brook Elementary School in the Parkway School District. After meeting with district administrators in private and then visiting an Early Education classroom, he talked in the school's library of creating a "seamless" path of education from Pre-K programs to college. Governor Nixon said he would request "additional resources" to fund early education programs, noting the connection between Pre-K and success later in life. He did not identify a dollar amount, but called it a "smart investment with a very big return." He …

A group of 80 students from the district's five high schools were among the crowd gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., this morning.
Parkway students who traveled to Washing to D.C to witness President Barack Obama take the oath of office this morning described witnessing the event as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The group of 80 students was among the estimated crowd of 700,000 who gathered on the National Mall to witness the ceremonial swearing in and hear the Obama’s inaugural address, which laid out his priorities for his second term. It made a strong impression on Parkway South senior AshaThanki. “It was phenomenal,” she said. “I didn’t realize it was going to be so different to see it live … it’s really a beautiful sight.” For Parkway Central senior Madison Edwards, the memory of being part of such a large crowd wrapped up in the historic nature of the moment …
