The recent St. Louis Color Run brought participants from all over the city, including several Maryland Heights residents. Check out photos sent in by readers of their colorful time at the 5k race which benefited the local branch of Autism Speaks.
The St. Louis Color Run offered participants a one-of-a-kind experience through the streets of downtown while running the most colorful 5k around. Taking place on Aug. 18, people took off at the starting line bright and early at 8 a.m. wearing clean white shirts. However, it didn't take long for those shirts to look more like a rainbow than a formerly crisp, squeaky clean white T-shirt. At several different stations, participants were sprayed with colored powder. "Brueggen's Buddies" will host a trivia night in late April to remember the late Parkwood PE teacher.
Steve Brueggen knew a lot of trivia. He was a knowledgeable teacher at Parkwood Elementary School, his colleague Greg Stoltz said. He knew everything from pop culture to sports. Organizers calling …

A physical education teacher at Parkwood Elementary School was killed early Sunday morning in a car crash involving a driver who police said was driving under the influence of alcohol. Steve Brueggen, 38, was riding in the rear of a Chevrolet Tahoe with six other people on westbound Interstate 270 near West Florissant Road. A 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Patrick D. Walsh, 20, of St. Charles, struck the Tahoe in the rear at about 1 a.m. Sunday. According to a report from KSDK, police estimated that Walsh was driving about 100 mph and had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit. The Tahoe flipped over several times, ejecting Brueggen and another man, Michael R. McLemore, 37, of O’Fallon, MO from the truck. Both were killed. …
