Maryland Heights' new Chief of Police Bill Carson will get paid $113,000 per year. Is that enough or too much?
On Friday, Maryland Heights Patch ran a story that featured newly-sworn-in Maryland Heights Police Chief Bill Carson telling the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he believes the department is the best in the state. The report was a simple one. But at the tail-end of the story, Patch reported Carson's salary. The employment agreement indicates Carson will receive an annual base salary of at least $113,000, with an annual increase of $5,000 with "satisfactory performance evaluations." That news was reported months ago. But a comment made on Maryland Heights Patch sparked another question. Newly-sworn-in Maryland Heights Police Chief Bill Carson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he believes the department is the best in the state and has a lot of outstanding and talented professionals. Carson spoke with the newspaper after being sworn in as chief during the Maryland Heights City Council's Jan. 3 meeting. William Carson will begin serving as Maryland Heights Police Chief on Jan. 1.
The Maryland Heights Police Department will get a new leader in 2013. Police Chief Tom O'Connor is set to retire in December, making way for William Carson, who now serves as the department's commander of Support Services and Office of Professional Standards, to take man the position beginning in January 2013. The Maryland Heights City Council unanimously approved Carson's hiring in August. The employment agreement indicates Carson will receive an annual base salary of at least $113,000, with an annual increase of $5,000 with "satisfactory performance evaluations."
