Starbucks Offers New $1 Reusable Tumbler

Would you pay $1 for the reusable plastic cup now available at St. Louis area Starbucks coffee shops?

In an effort to lesson the load of trash from disposable cups, Starbucks is now offering a new reusable tumbler.  The Seattle-based coffee company is now selling the plastic cups for $1 at St. Louis coffee shops, including the Starbucks in Westport Plaza.  The cups bear the Starbucks logo and resembling the paper cups. Starbucks is also offering a ten cents discount for each refill.  According to USA Today, the $1 tumbler is reportedly the latest effort to address criticism and reduce the amount of disposable items that clutter landfills or end up as litter.  Prior to the reusable tumbler, Starbucks already offered a 10-cent discount to customers who brought in a reusable mug. The company's goal is reportedly to serve 5 percent of all …

Starbucks Expanding: Do We Need More of The Coffee Shops?

The coffee company reportedly plans to add at least 1,500 cafes in the U.S. over the next five years.

The Associated Press is reporting Wednesday that the world’s largest coffee company plans to add at least 1,500 cafes in the U.S. over the next five years. The report indicates that Starbucks would have more than 20,000 cafes by 2014, up from its current count of about 18,000. The AP is also reporting the Seattle-based company also plans to move from its current Tazo tea and begin serving Teavana, which it announced it would acquire last month. There are currently two Starbucks locations in Town and Country and Manchester. One is located on Clayton Road and the other on Manchester Road. What do you think? Do you welcome more Starbucks? Are you happy to see the company grow, or are there enough Starbucks already? Tell us in the comments …

@Charyl, you are correct. Chesterfield Mall does not currently have a Starbucks, it was closed several years ago when they were contracting. I still find it hard to believe A MALL that does not have a Starbucks! @Bonnie, its not a daily thing for me, but a definite 'treat' when I'm out shopping with friends/family - especially when they have the seasonal specials! Let's Create Jobs for USA, Declares Starbucks

More than 7,000 Starbucks Coffee cafes are supporting an initiative with the Opportunity Finance Network to provide financing to community businesses, just in time for Fourth of July.

How much more patriotic can coffee lovers get for Independence Day observations than to brew up a new Starbucks Coffee blend appropriately named "Indivisible?" It's all about "Americans Helping Americans Create Jobs," indicates the Starbucks information about the new coffee line, while citing that more than 8 percent of the U.S. labor force is unemployed. Economists have predicted current economic conditions will stretch into the longest period of U.S. unemployment in the last 70-plus years. Starbucks teamed with Opportunity Finance Network (OFN), a group of community lending institutions established to provide financing to community businesses—especially those serving low-income, low-wealth and disadvantaged communities. Customer …

That would be pretty awesome! I am the St. Charles Patch editor and am spoiled to have three independent coffee shops each within about 5 minutes of each other in St. Charles. But I live in between Creve Couer and Maryland Heights and there isn't much within walking distance of my house in terms of indy coffee houses. I do like to sit at Einstein's Bagels sometimes. They are nice and the coffee …   more ›

About Town

Is a 31 Ounce Starbucks Coffee Necessary?

In a society that is already plagued with obesity and weight issues, Starbucks announces a new extra large size that is already causing controversy.

I am not a Starbucks enthusiast by any stretch of the imagination, but I do enjoy a good cup of coffee or hot cocoa every now and then from the Espresso drink giant. While I perused the Internet yesterday, I read that Starbucks will be offering a new size to their customers — a 31 ounce Trenta for those who need more to drink when the 25 ounce Venti isn't enough. Some would say the Trenta is Starbucks' "super-size." But Starbucks is quick to point out that the Trenta would have less than 90 calories if unsweeted and no more than 230 calories if sugar is added. And the Trenta is only available for iced drinks only, so for those that want a Trenta for their cappuccino, that is still not an option. Bloggers and pundits are weighing in on the …

I think bigger can be better. I am a coffee "freak" and love iced coffee in the summer so this bigger size is perfect for me. I don't add sugar and use skim milk. I know that the more I intake can affect me, so I omit other calories to off-set. Offering different sizes doesn't make people fat and unhealthy - deciding to buy them is the culprit. Businesses can't make decisions for you, they can …   more ›
