Patrick Walsh was was driving about 100 mph in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit when he crashed into a Chevy Tahoe on Interstate 270, near West Florissant Road, in 2011.
Patrick Walsh, the drunk driver responsible for a car crash that killed a Parkwood Elementary teacher in September 2011, will be sentenced in a St. Louis County courtroom today. Walsh, according to reports, was was driving a truck about 100 mph and had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit when he crashed into a Chevy Tahoe that Steve Brueggen, of Florissant, was riding in on Interstate 270, near West Florissant Road. The Tahoe flipped over several times, ejecting Brueggen and another man, Michael R. McLemore, 37, of O’Fallon, from the truck. Both were killed. "Brueggen's Buddies" will host a trivia night in late April to remember the late Parkwood PE teacher.
Steve Brueggen knew a lot of trivia. He was a knowledgeable teacher at Parkwood Elementary School, his colleague Greg Stoltz said. He knew everything from pop culture to sports. Friends couldn’t think of a more fitting way to remember Brueggen than to host a trivia night in his honor. Parkwood Elementary School will host the event in late April to remember Brueggen, Parkwood’s PE teacher who died in September after an automobile accident. Stoltz, an instructional technology specialist at Parkwood Elementary, knew Brueggen for seven years. Stoltz was devastated when he heard Brueggen had died, and he said he couldn’t believe someone so full of life could be taken like that. “It’s been hard on all of us,” Stoltz said. A physical education teacher at Parkwood Elementary School was killed early Sunday morning in a car crash involving a driver who police said was driving under the influence of alcohol. Steve Brueggen, 38, was riding in the rear of a Chevrolet Tahoe with six other people on westbound Interstate 270 near West Florissant Road. A 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Patrick D. Walsh, 20, of St. Charles, struck the Tahoe in the rear at about 1 a.m. Sunday.
