Burglar Attacked Woman With Hammer Before Trying to Rape Her, Police Say

Police say Daniel W. Lee, of St. Louis, broke into a Bridgeton home and beat a woman with a hammer before attempting to rape her. Then, when police tried to arrest him, he attempted to grab an officer's gun from their holster.

A St. Louis man is accused of breaking into a Bridgeton home April 21, beating the resident with a hammer and attempting to rape her. Daniel W. Lee, 34, of the 6900 block of Natural Bridge Road, was charged Friday with attempted forcible rape, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, felonious restraint, first-degree burglary and stealing a car. Bridgeton Police said Lee broke into the home and struck the resident in the face and head with a hammer. He then removed the woman’s clothes and attempted to rape her, police said. The woman had facial and head injuries. Police said the man took some coins from the home and stole the woman’s 2007 Buick LaCrosse, police said. Woman Uses Garage Passcode, Takes Car While Owner Vacations

Maryland Heights Police said the woman, who also took $300 cash from her acquaintance's home, was arrested while driving the car.

A woman used a garage passcode to enter a Maryland Heights home and steal a car while the owner was on vacation. Lauren P. Berry, 17, of the 1900 block of Tealwood Cove Court in Hazelwood, was charged Nov. 2 with stealing a vehicle, second-degree burglary and misdemeanor stealing, Maryland Heights Police said the owner returned home from vacation Aug. 5 in the 1400 block of Glenlea Court on Maryland Heights, to find her 1992 Oldsmobile Toronado and $300 cash were missing. She suspected Berry, an acquaintance, because she previously admitted to using the passcode to enter the garage and borrow the car, using a set of spare keys in the home.
