Burglar Attacked Woman With Hammer Before Trying to Rape Her, Police Say
Police say Daniel W. Lee, of St. Louis, broke into a Bridgeton home and beat a woman with a hammer before attempting to rape her. Then, when police tried to arrest him, he attempted to grab an officer's gun from their holster.
A St. Louis man is accused of breaking into a Bridgeton home April 21, beating the resident with a hammer and attempting to rape her. Daniel W. Lee, 34, of the 6900 block of Natural Bridge Road, was charged Friday with attempted forcible rape, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, felonious restraint, first-degree burglary and stealing a car. Bridgeton Police said Lee broke into the home and struck the resident in the face and head with a hammer. He then removed the woman’s clothes and attempted to rape her, police said. The woman had facial and head injuries. Police said the man took some coins from the home and stole the woman’s 2007 Buick LaCrosse, police said.
