Westminster's Penning Takes Extra Steps To Propel Volleyball Career

The senior will play volleyball in college at Pepperdine.

You can't teach height, as the saying goes. Mitch Penning, a standout senior on the Westminster Christian Academy volleyball team and Maryland Heights resident, had the height thing down. But in recent years, he knew he didn't know enough about flexibility and weight training. That was until he met Tracy Fober. Fober, a strength coach and physical therapist, is the owner of Iron Maven Physical Health & Performance and has a workout space in the light industrial district just outside Creve Coeur. Fober works with prep athletes looking to maximize potential and to build a foundation for the future, as well as older athletes looking to work through years of chronic use and injury. Parkway North Athletes Sign with Colleges

Some Parkway North's athletes signed with universities around the Midwest on April 26.

Several Parkway North High School athletes signed letters of intent with universities on Thursday. Among the athletes was North basketball player Darrell Johnson, who signed with Kansas State University. North wrestlers Darius Lewis and David Evans also signed letters of intent Thursday. Lewis plans to attend Lindenwood-Belleville, while Evans will attend Missouri Baptist University. Volleyball player DeAndre McCowan signed a letter of intent with Missouri Valley College. Swimmers Dyanna Schneider, Taylor Voelker and Amanda Stadermann also signed letters of intent. Schneider will attend Lindenwood University, Voelker will attend Truman State and Stadermann will attend Washington University.

Suburban South Roundup: Parkway North Volleyball Goes on Tear in Tourney

News and notes from the Suburban South Conference, including Parkway North volleyball and Parkway Central football.

Volleyball: Summit, Parkway North, Parkway West in First Place The Parkway North volleyball team (9-3) was on a recent hot streak, which included 2-0 wins over Hazelwood Central, Pattonville, Fort Zumwalt North and Whitfield in the Pattonville Tournament. The Vikings had a five-game winning streak stopped last Tuesday when they fell to Francis Howell North, 25-14, 24-26, 25-16. Howell North has a 10-2 overall record. Kirkwood's Jordan Berry and Anne Hellwege are among the league leaders in the conference. Berry leads the conference with 106 kills while Hellwege leads in digs with 161. The Pioneers are 8-5-1. Webster's Danielle Blossom is the Suburban South leader in digs with 270. The Statesmen are 7-6-2. A couple of big conference …
