Great Streets: City to Study Upgrades to Dorsett Road
Maryland Heights will examine ways to make Dorsett a more pedestrian and bike-friendly place.
For better or worse, if Maryland Heights had a "downtown Main Street" it would be Dorsett Road. "Dorsett Road is not anything to write home about in terms of a great place to be," said Hilary Perkins, comprehensive planner for Maryland Heights. But the city look at ways to turn Dorsett Road into a "Great Street." In January, Maryland Heights embarked on a six-month study of ways to improve Dorsett Road with a $500,000 federal grant awarded through the St. Louis Great Streets Initiative. The initiative was started in St. Louis by East-West Gateway in 2006 as a way to help local communities think differently about creating interesting, lively streets that serve everyone in the area.
