Maryland Heights Revitalization Group Holding Trivia Night to Raise Funds

The Maryland Heights Residents for Responsible Growth is hosting its annual trivia night on Saturday at the Maryland Heights Community Centre on Saturday.

Want to win a free ride in a private airplane? That chance has come as the Maryland Heights Residents for Responsible Growth is hosting its annual trivia night on Saturday at the Maryland Heights Community Centre.  To win the plane ride, you'll have to enter a raffle. The winner gets an aerial view of the local terrain, setting out from Creve Coeur Airport.  The trivia night will benefit local farmland and Creve Coeur Park.  Those interested in still registering for the event can email marylandheightsresidents@gmail.com to reserve a spot.  The Maryland Heights Residents for Responsible Growth, according to its website, is a group of concerned citizens formed in 2008 in response to plans by the City of Maryland Heights and private …

Trivia Fans Turn Out for Maryland Heights Residents for Responsible Growth Fundraiser

The local organization held a trivia night on Feb. 4.

Maryland Heights Residents for Responsible Growth (MHRRG) and the Open Space Council held a trivia night to raise funds on Feb. 4. Organizers said 13 tables of eight people attended the event. Melissa Heberle of MHRRG emceed the evening's trivia. She said the event had ten rounds of general trivia. Questions included "What is the technical term for the clavical?" and "In what California city did the last Pony Express ride end?"

Maryland Pointe Proposal Advances, But Conditions Set Bar High for Developer

Group opposing development near Creve Coeur Park say city staff, commission are starting to listen to their concerns.

The Maryland Heights Planning Commission voted 4-1 to approve the Maryland Pointe conceptual plan with some conditions. The Maryland Heights Residents for Responsible Growth opposed the plan, but group members see some victories in the process. “We’re disappointed that they approved the conceptual plan, but they did the next best thing by setting the standards very high for the developer on the next stage,” said Melissa Moulton, an organizer for Residents for Responsible Growth. Moulton said she’s encouraged that city staff, planning commission and city council have begun listening to residents. “They’re definitely listening more than they did three years ago,” she said. Updated: Planning Commission to Consider Controversial Maryland Pointe Proposal

Maryland Heights staff prepared a resolution that includes several conditions for the preliminary development plan for the Tuesday night meeting.

The Maryland Heights Planning Commission meeting likely will include a vote on the controversial Maryland Pointe development’s conceptual development plan Tuesday night at the Maryland Heights Government Center. During its Oct. 11 meeting, the commission asked staff members to draft a resolution that includes several conditions for the preliminary development plan, the next step in the process. The Maryland Pointe developers submitted a conceptual development plan for a mixed used development on 191 acres in the Howard Bend area. The site is just northwest of Creve Coeur Park, along Maryland Heights Expressway north of River Valley Drive. Maryland Heights Commission Puts Maryland Pointe Under Microscope

Maryland Heights Planning Commission questions lack of market analysis, whether they should revise Comprehensive Plan. Residents say they still want no part of development near Creve Coeur Park.

The Maryland Heights staff members told the city’s planning commission the Maryland Pointe project is not inconsistent with the city’s comprehensive plan. The plan would develop a mixed-use area that includes regional retail, office and distribution space on 191 acres in Howard Bend, just northwest of Creve Coeur Park. City Planner Wayne Oldroyd told the commission he was struck by two things during the plan review. “First was the passion and intensity of the public in terms of the future of their community and development in an area that is one of our biggest resources, the jewel of Creve Coeur Park,” Oldroyd said. “The second is the response of property owners and developers to the business opportunities offered by the Comprehensive Plan…

Park Lovers Say No to Howard Bend Floodplain Development

Floodplain development supporters were outnumbered Tuesday night at the Maryland Heights Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

The Maryland Heights Council Chamber overflowed Tuesday night during the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. The commission held public hearings on several issues, and one brought residents out in droves. Supporters and detractors alike came out to speak about the proposed Maryland Pointe commercial development in the Howard Bend Floodplain. John Dihel, a representative for the Maryland Pointe developers, addressed concerns voiced by community members and tried to debunk his opposition at the last public hearing. He said his office checked the validity of a 3,000-signature petition of people against the development. He said most of those who signed are not Maryland Heights residents, and some signatures are from people outside …
